Is Daily Mass A Realistic Goal?

I've become friends with an older woman whose energy belies her age. She just has this glow.

Last week I learned that she has not missed daily Mass in over 30 years.

I immediately decide to do the same. Never mind that I can't make it through ONE Sunday Mass without retreating to the vestibule. I'll make it work!

First Thursday Mass approached. I emailed a friend for accountability. I brushed hair, loosened the diaper, ripped off the sleeper, and...what was that horrible scream?!?

Yes. In my haste, I had caught the sensitive part of a 1-year-old boy in the teeth of his zipper.

What a wake up call. I spent the morning alternating between frozen peas and regret.

(PS--he's totally fine now)

  1. I love daily Mass and wouldn't miss it for the world. However, I would never have attempted it when my kids were little. Major stress! I started attending daily Mass when I went back to work and could walk to a nearby church for Mass on my lunch hour. Now that my kids are in Catholic School, we all go to Mass before their school day. We are the only family who attends, the rest are all grey haired retirees.

Daily Mass is a tremendous blessing for me and I am so grateful to be able to attend, it was well worth the wait for my kids to grow into it. And, I am so grateful that they are able to attend as well, even if the teenagers complain. I know that God is working on them.

God bless you in your efforts. You'll get there, but I don't think God intends for us to stress out about it.

  2. Ouch - I'm sorry about your little guy and am glad he's fine now. It is wonderful that you've decided to try to attend Holy Mass more frequently! Yes, it can be a challenge sometimes to get there but God always blesses us for our efforts. He is there awaiting us to receive Him, and truly there is no greater blessing. The 'stresses' can also be called 'sacrifices'. Daily Mass and a desire to receive Him every day is a beautiful habit to cultivate in our children. If the Lord is calling you to attend Mass daily surely He will provide the grace daily for you to get there.
